Checking my math and research

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Fender Bassman Pro 300 and am using a Genz Benz 215 that is rated at 600W RMS at 4 ohms. I want to add a Genz Benz 210 LS, which is only available at 8 ohms at 200W. I checked with Jeff and this model only came with 2-16 ohm speakers wired in parallel. According to the math (and verifying with reading other post on here), this should bring the total to around 2.67 ohms. I imagine the 215 with get around 2\3rds of the power, with the 210 getting a bit less than 1\3.

The Bassman has a 2-4-8 ohm selection switch. Should I run it at 2 ohms? Fender states the Bassman runs at 300W at any setting. The reason I am thinking about doing this is because I plugged my Ampeg 810e into the external speaker jack and it was monsterous at 2 ohms, and added just enough brightness to the overall sound. I think the 210 stacked GB on top of the 215 would be sweet and woukld match looks-wise.

What do you think? Thanks.

Your math is correct. I can't comment on the amp setting (lack of tube amp knowledge).

I concur that the calculations are correct, and that it will be safest to run the head at 2 Ohms.

If at all possible, try this combination of speakers out before you part with any money -- there's a good chance that the 210 cabinet will add little and detract some from your sound. Two small speakers receiving half as much power may not add terribly much to your volume, and you run the risk of adding significant phasing problems with whatever extra output you do gain.

I have a Bag End 410 and 210 and you can certainly feel the difference. However, the 210 is basically half of the 410 enclosure with the same drivers, etc. The OP might not be a lucky with the combination of cabs but who knows-try it!

Yes, your calculations and logic are correct. I would also recommend operating your amp with the 2 ohm tap.
