Checking out a Skunkworks SVT-HD

Sign in to disble this ad
I may be checking out an Ampeg Skunkworks SVT-HD this weekend, for what I think is a good deal. There are no pics, so I'll only be able to see it in person, but what are some ways to verify that it is a true SVT-HD and that the parts are original?

Also, what is a realistic price that one of these puppies would sell for on the current market?

no idea what they go for, but there should be a plate with a number on the back that tells which one out of the lot that they made it is. it's also 2 channels with two inputs per channel. it's fairly obvious. here's a pic of one on this listing...

Hey Jimmy what's up? Been a while.
I kind of forgot about this site. A friend of mine has an MTI SVT chassis & I was looking around at the forums. I need to get some hardware for it, but the amp is in tact & is brand new & only had tubes installed in it when it was tested back in the early 80's. So I might buy it for $400 & get it looking good. Man the Japanese did a fantastic job wiring those things. I would have to say it's cleaner than the SLME reissues for sure.
You know, it's unreal the things people believe about Ampeg SVT's.

yo dave, what up! good to hear from you! man, for 400 smackers you should get all over that mti! i don't know what the hell people think calling them inferior amps. you know, no matter what changes that amp goes through over the years, every one of them sound like svt to me, and the mti is no exception. japanese schmapanese...mti's are great amps.

merry christmas to you and yours, and don't be a stranger round these parts!

Cheers again.

i agree with Jimmy about the MTI's. i used to use two of them and they sounded exactly like all my other vintage SVTs. they're great amps. maybe not quite as pretty, but they get the job done just the same.
