Checklist before buying used cab??

Sign in to disble this ad
As some of you guys know I have been asking questions about an Aguilar GS412 cab , and I found a used cab on craigslist for a good price. The guy told me that is in really good condition. What should I check for before I buy it? I'm not able to try it since we are meeting in a public place. Thanks for your help! Hope I don't regret it

Until your bass is plugged into an amp and into the cab, the most important things to check for are out of your reach. As long as it works the way Aguilar intended it to work and you are well-informed of any wear and tear on it, you're in good shape.

You can always sell it if you don't like it once you get it.

gotta try it. Period. it could be blown, the tweeter could be blown, the crossover could be fried.

I'm a BIG believer in buying used, but if you can't actually fire a piece up, and you have *zero* recourse, then it best be CHEAP!!!

I wouldn't purchase the cab unless I could hear it first because, most of what could be wrong with the cab won't show itself until you play through it.

Pick it up and shake it gently. Anything rattling around in there?

But, yes, +1 to most everything else. You need to try it out.

Just spitballin' but you could:

1) If you know anyone that works at a private/small music store you could ask that person if you can meet the seller there and do the deal. (the smaller places, not GC, might) If you don't know someone you could call and offer to pay them a few bucks to let you do that.

2) Ask the seller if he/she will accept paypal for the cab and then meet him/her at a coffee shop with your laptop and pay him right there (use a credit card) and then if it is blown and the seller won't take care of you, you will have "protection".

Is there a reason you can't go to the cab location and play it? Unless it's new in box or you can pay with a credit card I won't buy with out trying.
