Choosing my new amp

Sign in to disble this ad
So I am in the process of choosing a new amp because as much as I love my Ampeg 4x10, it is farrrrrrr too heavy to be lugging into the places I am playing. Plus at this time my Line 6 head's effects are fun, but have no practical use in my band(s). I have been looking at the GK MB 212 cabs and considering getting them 1) for their relatively lower price and 2) Considerably light weight. Originally my plan was to get a 2x12 and a GK MB500... but I like the idea of having 4 12's onstage. So I am looking at 2 of those cabs and maybe a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0. It pushes 900 at 4 and each of those cabs can handle 600. Any suggestions, corrections, better gear choices I should be making?

Go to Avatar Speakers. They're packaging GB heads together with Avatar bass cabs for special prices!

GK MB212 or 210. I have the 210 and it sounds fantastic. 350 watts of pure enjoyability. Loud enough to handle most gigs. 39-33 lbs respectively. $700-$600 respectively. I rarely turn my gain and volume past 12 o' clock. I like that it has an auxiliary plug in too.....

My only issue is I have been a solid state guy forever and tubes scare me away mostly

The STL is Still a S.S. amp really. Just a tube PRE amp.... Doesn't mean U have a "tube" amp & basically it's as durable as ANY s.s amp- or tube amp( I don't buy into the Tube amps are more 'delicate' myself.

I've dropped MANY over my 33 yrs playing & NONE stopped due to any mishandling-

in fact the ONLY time a tube amp of mine stopped EVER was when the power at a club was bad & the FUSE did ITS JOB

BIG +1 for the AVATAR deal!! Seems great. I've not heard any 'LEGIT' BAD things about Avatar cabs

Hm in light of that I may go with this deal. I am looking for something lighter than my American Made Ampeg 4X10 its about 100 pounds and 61 is definitely lighter.

SOLUTION!!!!

Ok so I have been turning my brain over sideways to figure out what to do here. I love 4x10s but I hate back issues and 61 pounds while not incredibly heavy is still a tad awkward at those dimensions. So I may get an 8 ohm 2x12 and then , when and if I wish to add more "speakerage", buy another 8 ohm 2x12 and have a sweet 4x12 setup that is much more easily transported. Any thoughts? Just for reference The Shuttle 9.0 puts out 500w at 8 and 900 at 4 so 2 cabs that can handle 500 each should be terrific right?

good choice

Great choice IMO. I’m a big fan of 12” speakers myself. I have a pair of single 12” cabs but I have total gas for the Avatar B212 NEO/Genz Benz half-stack.

By the way, I sent Dave an email at Avatar and he changed the wording on his website for the Genz Benz/Avatar bass packages.
