Class D, 2 ohms ?

Sign in to disble this ad
Can anyone shed some light on this for me ?
With the huge amount of Class D amps hitting the market I have not come across a unit that can handle a 2 ohm load, there are a few that are 2x4 ohm (epifani PS1000, Ashdown Little giant ) but no mono-block 2 ohm. I was just wondering if is technical reason the amp manufactors are not making them or it's a supply and demand thing.
If anyone knows of an amp that IS class d and can do 2 ohms I will beat myself with the keyboard

Carvin's BX500 goes down to a 2 ohm load at 500 watts rms and is class D.

The explanation I've heard is that the power modules are already in bridged mode to create the rated power at 4 ohms.

Carvin BX500 is class D, is it not? You can use my keyboard if you want. Not readily available to you in Australia though.
