Class D micro - good for it's weight, or just good?

Hello, Let's say you never have to move your own gear. Never touch it except for the knobs. You don't maintain it yourself, and crowds and other musicians don't even see it, just hear it. Would you still choose to gig a micro?

If I found one that performs like I want an amp to, then yes.
But so far I have not seen any that I'd like enough to spend any money on.
In some cases I am surprised that the companies are selling them.

I found just that in my RH450. Its an amp that I'd gig with no matter what.

Yup. The GB Shuttle 9.0 is everything I've ever wanted in an amp. If it was 30lbs I'd still be using it.

When I got my Markbass LMII it had nothing to do with weight. Everything to do with sound, and the flexibility or the tones you can get from it. Best sounding Amp I have ever played on. But then again that is just my opinion.

If I never had to move it I'd play a pre/power rig with a fEarful 1515/66 probably. I'd still use a lightweight power amp =)

There are few amps that I've played that sound as good as my Tecamp Puma1000. If cost and weight were not considerations, I would likely be playing one of the larger Tecamp models.

There is just as much variance across class D amps as across any other type of topology. There is no 'class D' tone.

Put an Epifani UL502, an iAmp800 or Pro, a TecAmp Puma500, a Markbass F500, Markbass SD1200, a Shuttle 9, a Genz Shuttle Max12, etc. all in a room and play them side by side. Then tell me what a 'Class D' amp sounds like... fat and warm and tubey...yes, uber clean and articulate.. well, that too in some executions, warm but tight and a bit grindy...yep, HUGE low end and hi fi treble... yep, that too

If someone else moved it for me, I'd have a DB750 on top of two DB410's for anything outdoors. That rig is a bit too much on the bottom for indoors unless it's a very large stage and venue, so I'd have a smaller rig. Not sure what that would be though because I've liked so many.

That about sums it up. For solid state and hybrid amps it's all about execution of the front end. A clean reliable power supply is just that, regardless of weight.

It's good for companies that people like
class d amps. Nothing sounds like a tube
but a tube though.
All tube amps sound the best for a
reason whether one likes the tone or
not.

I'm not strictly a tube guy;
I like hybrids/ss also.

And why would you think that a hybrid/ss amp couldn't be class D, even if it did matter, which it doesn't?

I too prefer my db750 but I'm retiring it in favor of my GB Shuttle 9.0. The GB is a great amp and more than good enough to handle the kind of gigs I do. It's size and weight is the main factor behind my decision.

i have both tube amps and a class d micro...most of the time i use the tube amps. but judge amps on a case by case basis...i've played heavier ss amps i wouldn't give you 10c for and heavier ss amps that are great. same with class d's.

Actually my post makes no reference to that!
