Can I run a 200W cab with a 300W head without blowing the speaker? |

It's not putting out 300 watts if it's not turned up to it's limit (sometimes that might be less than 10 or all the way up). Listen to the speaker, if it sounds distorted or like it's farting, it's time to turn down either the volume, bass knob, or a little of both. If it sounds good, it's working good. |

Depending on your EQ you could potentially run it flat out and not blow it, or boost bass and kill it @ 1/3rd or 1/2 or 3/4 depending on how aggresive the output trim pot is.

| | | | Thanks! All good advice. I have a Carvin R600 (2 300W amps) combo with 2 10" and a horn.
Doesn't quite give me the low end I want, so I thought adding a GK 15" 200W cab to the one amp would do the trick. I wouldn't need to crank the low end speaker, since the 10's already give me good sound quality overall. I was just concerned I'd be pissing my cash out the winder.
Thanks again. |

Some rumble on the floor, but not over the top crazy, just to round out the sound. The R600 is a kick back, so it directs my playing at these overly abused ears (thank you very much guitar slingers) while at the same time throwing the sound up and out, which is not always desirable at gigs, so I have to stand it and lose that option. I think adding the 15" cab will give me the best of both worlds. Incidentally, the kick back position fits the GK's W x D dimensions with room to spare, but if movement from vibration is an issue I can resolve this easy enough without jeopardizing the integrity of the GK's cab. |
