I lived in a dorm last year, and this year I have an apartment. In the dorm I had:
Bass:
Ibanez BTB405QM
MusicMan Sterling HH
Gallien Krueger MB115
Boss GT-10B
Guitar:
Godin SD22
Walden N550
The guitars ran through the Line 6 Pod into my Dell Studio, which then ran out of my M-Audio Studio Monitors. The guitars I kept in my closet/under the couch, and the basses were in stands. I also lofted my bed, which was nice.

The apartment set up will be great though, four basses, both guitars, my GK, Boss, homemade guitar cab and Bogner head, and the POD.

Edit: If you want a good headphone rig, if you have an iPhone/iPod Touch, get the Gallien Krueger app and a 1/4-1/8 adapter for an Apple device of your choice.

I've used a vox amplug and a macbook runing guitar rig for practicing quietly, both work fine for practicing but guitar rig sounds better and the free demo limitations don't really bother me.

Does the amplug work fine with bass guitars?

Back in school, I had Peavey TKO 115 combo amp. The headphone jack was good for practicing quietly, but I still had an amp to use for coffehouse/pub shows.

It also doubled nicely as a bedside table.

If I were back in school again and had things to do over, I'd have gone the Peavey TKO route. a.) they were already around at that point (mid 90s), b.) would have actually handled gigs better than the Crate practice amp I tried to get by on, and c.) I wouldn't have felt like I was risking expensive stuff in a college setting (yet, I still dig the sound of them). I came up short at a jam the other night and split my signal into one this past Saturday and dug the hell out of it.

Throw in "more money" and "modern technology" as upgrades to the scenario, and I'd go GB Shuttle combo. But neither was even remotely possibly when I was in school.
