Combo Amp as Cab?
Hello fellow bassists,
I'm looking to purchase a head and cab but I currently only have a limited amount of cash and would prefer to only buy one. Would it be possible to use my Fender Rumble 1x15 150w bass amp as a cabinet. I'll most likely purchase a little mark III head to go along with it or perhaps an acoustic head not sure.
Let me know if this is possible and if so what heads do you guys like that provides a full tone and can hit high freq. Also needs to be loud.
Background Info: I'm in a pretty active band and play multiple gigs per week the venues are average size and every now and then I play outdoors at festivals/parks.
I don't know what the speaker is in your combo, but as long as you can plug in a head, I don't see why it wouldn't work. I have an old Acoustic 126 combo that has a vented 15" speaker and I sometimes power that with a 320 head. It sounds far better with the head than it does with the amp in the combo.
The only thing about lower wattage combos is that the speaker(s) included are usually rated for slightly over the wattage and no more. So you're likely not going to be able to turn up any louder than you were before.
