Combo amp opinion

Hey Fellow TBer's,

Quick question..... I'm considering purchasing one of the following bass combos to use behind our drummer as a reference amp for his head. The choices are:

A USED SWR Basic Black combo -OR- a NEW GK MB 112 combo.

I am currently running a GK 1001 RBII into a 410 NEO for my head....

Any suggestions, comments, opinions and instruction will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to everyone in advance!

Blessings ~. :^)

The GK MB112 combo will be a great choice. The SWR combo does not have that "low midrange push" to really be heard around the thundering drums. The GK combo will have that sound and more.

Hey, good luck with that layout. I'd certainly appreciate your letting us know how it all works for you.

I play through a pair of 2x10's, often without PA support, and I'm planning to try my old Genz Benz M-Line 1x12 as my drummer's monitor for my sound. Rather similar scenario based on your description I think. I suspect that he'll like having a volume knob right there to give him as much of my sound as he needs.

combo amp opinion

Hey Groove Pump !

Yes it's the same kinda setup. I'm trying to provide a monitor type effect for him. He loves hearing the bass behind him... it helps us "get our groove on" even groovier!!!! LOL !!!!

So in this way (as you mentioned) he can have total control of the volume and even the eq to his liking.
The cool thing is that GK MB 112 combo will enable me to leave my "big rig" at the church and allow me to take the little combo home to rehearse and still shake the walls !!! YEAH !!!!

Another nice advantage is, since I like to run wireless and I tend to venture over into his space, I can still hear my bass right there. So it fills the stage up nicely.... :^)

Most certainly I will let you know how it works out.... judging by our setup I think it should be pretty sweet!

Peace brother ! and have a blessed Easter !

Blessings ~ :^)

Combo amp opinion

Hey my TB brothers!

Here's an update on that GK combo and our drummer...

Well we had rehearsal at church last night for our upcoming Easter Sunday services. Brought in my little GK MB 112 combo and set it up behind the drummer. He and the lead guitarist just looked at it and grinned. I guess they "kinda" had a feeling that it was gonna do something unexpected...(simply because they like the GK rig I use).. Anyway, we started rehearsal and the drummer WENT GA-GA.. I mean totally GOO-GOO!!!... he couldn't believe the sound that was coming out of that little combo! All he kept saying was,"man I like that, man I really like that"...All I did was grin BIG TIME !!!! The worship director/lead guitarist walked back to the amp and just stared at it and listened... I suggested that he pick up the combo and he did and he was amazed at the weight but more impressed with the sound AND tone coming out of that little box....I told him to crank up the volume... there was NO CRACKING, NO BUZZING... NO NOTHING !!!! That thing is built like a tank!Needless to say... I'M STILL GRINNING!!!
I plan on taking some pics of the setup so you guys can take a gander... and yes the drummer can reach back and adjust the volume, the EQ, all that good stuff.
So all in all it works EXQUISITELY !!!! a small step for our needs, but man a monumental step to help us "get our groove on" even groovier

Here's a ''BIG THANK YOU'' shout to you guys that suggested, encouraged and helped!

I'm super happy that I heeded your advice GearHead and went with the GK ! THANKS BRO !

Everybody..... Have a very peaceful and blessed Easter Sunday and God bless !

peace
