Combo Amp: quality vs. price?

My old amp recently shorted out, and is really beyond repair. I am looking for a good combo amp, mainly because of the portability and also because I do not need a large amp. Is there any combo amp that has good tone, but is also not too large and expensive? I'm playing a fretless electric bass with EMG pickups.

Check out the threads that discuss the Gallien Krueger MB115 and MB210 combos. They give you a lot of performance for the dollar. Based on what you read, you might consider to go in that direction or choose another--such as buying used. It's at least a starting point.
