Cool To combo or not to combo that is the question

So, i've got this grand to play with ...

I want something "vintagey" it's not a word ... but should be.

tubes would be preferable but i don't really have the budget. My guitarists are quite hard to contend with. I want a warm fat tone that sounds good cranked clean but something that has nice lows so solidstate would probably be better?

what would you guys suggest? like i said i'm new at this game. I just want something that is good quality but small.

Everything i seem to have come across is either an 8x10 stack with a huge head costing the price of my yearly rent or a practice amp.

everything in between lacks any kind of aesthetic value i swear.

cheers guys, any help would be much obliged. Like i said, i new to this. I've always played through my tiny little peavy which i love but still ... its a prac amp or a B2RE with a 1x15 cab ... which i hated and i'm not going to lie. preference i suppose?

It's just my ignorance i know, thats why i need you guys to point me in the right direction.

P.s. sorry again if this is in the wrong forum i did a search for combo bass in the amps forum but to no avail.

Cheers everyone.

Matt

check the reviews section. plenty of combo amps have been reviewed there.

IMO the markbass 102P is pretty sweet. also, the GK MB combos would be worth checking out, and are cheap enough that you could get an extension cab to have more speakers and more watts to move more air and make the guitarists ask you to turn down.

carvin bx500 with a carvin brx 210,Hard to beat! for a little more money I really like the simplicity and tone of markbass lmiii. Whatever head you choose, the carvin brx cabs are hard to beat! I would'nt go with a combo personally when bassheads and cabs are so much lighter these days, you have more versatility with seperate units.

Ampeg combos are a pretty good option if you're trying to stay under a grand. I've had a BA210 for a few years now and have yet to need something bigger. It held up well in a 900 seat aud by itself. It's 225 watts solid.

They make the same amp in 300 and 600 watt version (still under a grand). I think they're called BA300 and BA600.

Personally I wouldn't try to go for anything more than a combo with how much your spending nor would I go bigger than a combo unless you're playing pretty big gigs.

Genz Benz. If the combo's don't do it for you,the Streamliner head and Uber Quad cab are supposed to sound quite "vintagey" and sweet.
