Mackie Thump TH-15A | Sweetwater.com

this speaker right here.

I'm looking for a solution for vocals in my band. Its me, a guitar player, and a drummer. there will be vocals coming from me and the guitar player, I want to know if we will both be able to sing at once using this speaker, and I want to know if we will need a mixer.

400w is plenty of power but I'm just wondering

If you have a dual xlr cable it will be possible. Using just one with a band may not be loud enough. I own 4, I feel I am qualified to answer your Thump questions.

I'm really new to this, sorry if I come across as a complete idiot but I assume a daul XLR cable is just a cable that has a 'Y' shaped split in it?

Yes, 2 female ends into 1 male end. I don't know if you can get one long enough (with enough seperation) so that the two of you won't be kissing during the song. If you are a very quiet band it might work.

You should pick up a small mixer with some built in EQ and effects to go with a pair of those. I have used a similar Mackie as mains for small shows and as a floor monitor for big stages.

You can probably find used Mackie mixer on Craig's list for not much $$.

Eh, its avoidable, we can get extension cables I'm guessing.

So if we got mics, then the necessary cables, we could run main vocals through this right?

+1 on adding a mixer to that setup. If it was me that's what I would do, even just a basic inexpensive one.

A small passive Behringer mixer costs about 50.00.

Yes, you can run a mic directly into the Mackie Thump.

Would a mixer in this situation be necessary though?

Would the main purpose of a mixer be evening out the volume levels?

Even the cheapest mixer would give you EQ and volume control, while a better one would add effects.

Just the speaker by itself? I don't know if you will be happy but it will amplify your voice. I would invest in a small mixer. I would try this out if possible before buying.
