Comments - Feedback: Ampeg VR Micro

Hey there, can anyone provide some comments & feedback regarding to the Ampeg Micro VR Micro Head & Cabinet. Just purchased in Canada and shipped to Australia.

Must say the build quality is excellent from China, sounds awsume for the size. About 4.5kgs for the head & 11kgs for the bin. Great to plug in an mp3 player or Ipod and headphones to jam along with. The family certainly appreciate the less noise.

These retail at the Basscentre in Melbourne for approx AUS$1,550. Paid just over $AUS 800 including shipping to Australia took about 6 days to receive, once clearing customs. The great thing with this is that the head can be ran through my Ampeg SVT 410HLF at the dedicated 4 ohms giving maximum power at 200 watts solid state mosfet, have heard the actual rating is more around the 260 watts @ 4 ohms.

I am using a Fender 60th Ann P Bass passive and a Musicman Stingray 4 Active to run through this amp. Both give varying sounds, I am traditionally a pick player, rather than fingers although can do both.

My traditional rig that I use is the Ampeg SVT CL Classic 300 head American Made and matching American made SVT 410hlf cabinet very powerful fantastic unit, but weighs a tonne!!

The Ampeg Micro was the closest match to this sound that I had been looking for without the weight. Great for practice and our semi acoustic shows.

Warranty is 5 years head, and two years cabinet from Ampeg.

Here in the US, I paid $299 for the head and the same for (2) cabs each...Not so bad, the whole rig is real lite and very easy to transport. I did get rid of 1 cab and the head (too much stuff) . I do like the (8 Ohm ) cab and will keep that. Having a CL as well, you might have to get used to a small rig. Honestly its a small venue , practice rig. at best. Others won't agree but this is my opinion. Best of luck with whatever you get.

i pretty much agree with you right down the line. i totally love mine, and i have a 69 svt and a 64 b-15n. waleross is right, it's a small gig rig, but it's got a lot of kick to it, and if you mic it through the pa, it'll handle any gig as long as your stage volume isn't cranked svt loud.
