Compact, Portable Cab Help

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey! I just bought a new cab. It is an Ampeg IsoVent. I love it, but it is like 130 pounds and I need something more portable. The IsoVent gives me a classic rock tone, and I would like something like a 212 because I know that sounds killer and its very portable (usually). I tried a bag end (think it was a 15'' or more like an 18'') and i thought it was a killer, modern tone. i tried it with a genz benz shutte 6.0. I've heard of them, and ive always thought they were an extremely high end company that was very expensive. i looked them up and most of their stuff is $400-$500! max $900! are these hand made cabs? are they quality? i know they sound great. I also have tried a bergantino 212 with a gb shuttle 9.0 and mesa m9. that sounded killer, but the cab is like + or - $1,200! give me some recommendations because I'm new to cabs. (sound samples would be greatly appreciated)

oh and im not looking to buy anytime soon, unless a great deal pops up

If your able you can build your own fEarful 15/6 cab for $479. Weight around 55LBS

fEARful Kits, fEARful 15/6 Flat Pack Driver Kit | Speaker Hardware

These have a great rep on TB for very good reason.

Other thing I'd like to know is carrying one 410 easier than a 115 cab + a 210?

The beauty of these 15/6 designs is you get huge full lows from the amazing 3015LF driver combined with the cutting yet smooth mids of the 6" driver. Many report these cabs being able to handle more power than a 212 or 410.

You'll have to wait for the 4 ohm version to be back in stock at Avatar or get the 8 ohm version. Read up on these 15/6 designs on tb. There is a TON of info on them... including a long thread dedicated to the tb153.

Here it is! Avatar 3 way 15/6/tweet

But the more speakers you have the more power. Speaker size doesn't matter from what I hear. But ill research it.

Yes, generally the more speakers you have the louder the cab will be. But you also have to consider cab efficiency, how the cab is tuned, is there a low-mid boost or is it scooped sounding etc. These all have an effect on how loud the cab will be.

The 15/6 is very capable of putting out loud amounts of volume AND do it in a relatively portable package, as you requested in your OP. It also sounds very good without having to resort to tricks like increasing mids.

Anyway, its your choice, your money. Look around do the research and decide for yourself what works for you. If you look at my profile you'll see I have gone thru MANY cabs. The 15/6 style cab is in my opinion the best. If you really want the best you should get a fEarful 15/6 as they are the best designed.
