I've been playing with an SWR 350X through a GK Gold line 115 and 210. Recently, I've decided that I want a MUCH warmer sound. In my hunt, I've decided to go with the Orange Terror Bass head.

Now that I have the head figured out, I need to decide on new speakers. I'm not going to buy whole new cabs, as I really like the construction of the enclosures from GK.

Versatility is key. I play a lot of classic rock, Motown style R&B, and funk.
So have at it, what should my new speakers be?

Just asking for a reference point so I can actually have a guided search. Also, I really don't have anywhere around me where I can just stop by and test out a thousand speaker solutions.

that's all the more reason you shouldn't bother putting new speakers in the goldlines. you really don't know what will work in them without applying some science, and considering they're the cheapest cabs gk makes, the likelihood of them improving with a speaker change isn't high. cabs are the one part of your rig where you truly get what you pay for.

Well, considering the Goldlines are aluminum, I'd figure a non-aluminum speaker would dramatically improve on the current tonal qualities.

I do not think you will get a "warmer" sound from the Orange head. I have never heard Orange & warm used together. Use the money from the the head & get a warmer cab

If only anyone was interested in buying them. I honestly have no idea why I used to like these things. Tastes change, I guess.

Well, I was planning on keeping it under 1200 total.
I've played the bass terror at my friend's place and fell in love with it. So after the 750 for it (thanks to a coupon) I'm really trying to stay in the 500-600 range. I was hoping that I could avoid some cost by using my existing cabinets and replacing those crap aluminum cones.

The 350X head through the right cab will do what you want. I have one. Plugged into my Eden 212 it is plenty warm. Plugged into my SWR Golieth Sr 610 it rocks. Don't underestimate that head. Use the money for a good cab. The Burg or GK cabs are great too.

It should also be noted that I'm also looking into a lighter rig than what I currently own.

Yep! Ditch the Goldlines. They're heavy (as you should know), made with MDF (that's why they're heavy), and use a cheap speaker. Truly produced for low budgets or beginners.

Go with one of the new G-K MB, or Neo II cabs. Or, SWR GoLight, Avatar Neo, etc. Plenty to choose from at all price points.

I used to own a 350 head. It's a fully professional piece of equipment. The Goldlines are not. Sure, they can be used in a professional situation, but they are no where near the same class as the 350. Get a cab with the tone you want that's actually in the same class as that 350 head.

The 350 head can be heavy for the wattage, so find a light case/bag for it for starters. The Bass Terror head is really nice. I played one in Dublin earlier this year and was impressed. But again, it's in the same class as your 350...which is far above that Goldline cab.
If one of your goals is to reduce weight, look for one of the new neo-loaded ultralight cabs. If you want to invest in some Orange gear, check out their cabs. That said- one thing to bear in mind is that with the headroom of the 350 head, you'll want a pretty efficient cab. If your playing situation is a typical rock styled one, then I recommend more speaker surface area.
