Configuration Questions

Hey guys! I have decided that I am sick of having a heavy amp, and I am going to try to sell my 4x10 cabinet. I was looking into getting a 2x10 instead.

Will I lose a lot of my low end? The 4x10 has this great warm sound, and I just don't want to lose that. I just don't want the 2x10 to give off a really middy tone and not give me the fullness I love.

Also, I was debating on getting one of the Fender Bassman TVs. I Know I am going to want either the 350 watt 1x15 or the 350 watt duo ten, which is I believe a 2x10 basing off of the name.

I have heard that the 1x15 can have a slow response time and make my low end sound a bit floppy, but like with my 4x10 and 2x10 problem, I don't want the 2x10 to not have much low end.

Thanks for the help guys!

While I was at Bass San Diego yesterday, I let a couple folks play my Drozd and JO5 through an EA iAmp Pro into a Bergantino HS 210. I thought the amp was plugged into the 410 sitting next to it. The bottom end sounded better than my Eden D-210XST. I can recommend it highly.

I actually prefer the sound of 2x10 cabs, typically, over 4x10 cabs. IME though, you'll loose a lot of girth to your sound when going from a 4x10 to a 2x10. I would look at some neo 4x10 cabs. They really are damn light.
Why are we talking about cabs when you said your sick of your heavy amp? What amp are you using?

If you are a gigging player a 2x10 will not fill all your needs. A pair of them have served me well for the last about fifteen years.

You'll lose up to 6dB of output capacity in the low end. That's the equivalent of going from a 200 watt to 50 watt amp, so consider it well. Best try before buying to be sure.

Myth. Different cabs and drivers sound different, but aside from midrange dispersion the driver size alone has little to no bearing on the result.

Well, I have a Hartke LH500, and I like the sound of that, I just don't want to lose my low end. It seems like if I make the change I will lose that though.

Sounds like you might prefer some extra bottom end. You should try a cab with a high power Neo 15 in it, sized correctly for the driver and see if you like it. The cab will be about the same size as your 410, but the weight will be less, and you can really pour the power to it to get your volume that you like with the 410.

Thanks to all the recommended the Neo cabs! Any brand suggestions?

Which configuration should I go for if I get one of the Fender Bassman TV combos?

Thanks again guys! It really helps a lot!
