Configuring active crossovers

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought a xti2000 a couple weeks ago for my nEarful build. I have been playing around with band manager. The xti gives me Butterworth filters from 6-48db/oct and 24db and 48db/oct LR filters.

I'm using the same drivers as the Fearful the 3012lf, 6ND410 and the ASD1001. The only passive component is dukes HPF for the tweeter. I bypassed the L-pad since the XTI has adjustable hi and low shelf filters.

Now my plan was to just start around 700hz and just start playing around with different slopes using my ears and jDFT until I got something livable.

So my question is, Is there a better way to go about this or a standard procedure for setting up DSP, preferably something that won't make my eye bleed as the passive crossover design did.

If this was a PA, and you wanted faithful and accurate reproduction across the audio band, you could do something with a reference mic and a spectrum analyzer...

But it's a bass rig, which is all about tone production, not reproduction. The speaker gurus (I am not one) will tell you what slopes to use, and where to set the corner frequencies to keep the speakers happy. Relative levels are your call.
