Connect combo to powered cab?

Sign in to disble this ad
I found a Peavey 210hp powered cab for about $50. I have a Peavey Max115 combo now. Could I connect the combo EFX out (post eq/pre-amp) to the 210 powered cab?

Yes, but you won't have much control over the volume of the powered cab. You'd have to play around with pre- and post-gain in the combo to achieve a balance. Doing so may change your tone, because most PV amps achieve different tones as you adjust both controls.

I see what you mean. I suppose I could go straight a mixer first, then to the powered cab? That would allow guitar and mic to share the cab as a small PA?

Thanks for the reply!

I thought you were supposed to go straight from the DI. Presuming it has one. Not sure how these powered cab things are supposed to work..

I'm not sure either. That's why I thought I'd ask someone who knows more than I do. Maybe I can learn something here!

Well, hell. I didn't know I'd have to learn something. But, ok. I'll take one for the team.

I seriously did think they were supposed to be hooked up through the DI, though.

Effects send (post EQ). The input gain will affect the slave unit as well as the EQ you have chosen.

Sorry, Scott, I didn't mean it that way. The DI makes perfect sense. My amp doesn't have a DI out, and I'm new to this stuff so I'm just asking questions. Thanks for takin the time to reply!

I'm just horsing around. Didn't mean to sound grumpy--certainly not how I meant anything.

Effect send, huh? I wouldn't have guessed! Makes sense though. You can use the input knob to control volume of both units and the EQ effects them both, too.

Peavey's response...

Hello,
The 210HP is only supposed to receive a higher frequency range for bass guitar bi-amping purposes. Since the MAX 115 doesn't provide a high crossover output then I don't recommend to use it this way. When it was designed then many Peavey combo amps provided a 200Hz or higher ( adjustable ) crossover high frequency output.
Thanks,
Aubrey
