considering a new cab.

Sign in to disble this ad
hey folks, been a while since I've posted, but that's not important.
it's good to be back and seeking knowledge again. so my question to you fine ladies and gents., cabinet advice? oh the dreaded subjective flame producing discussions.

well any way, ok so the story is: I am currently running a Sunn 300T through a Yorkie 410B cab. it gets the job done, but I think it is time to find a cab that can unleash the full potential of the whopping 300watt tube monster. I say this because I, personally, am not happy with the sound of the combination and think there might be a better cab to use. (correct me if I am wrong though )

so, might some of you be able to suggest bass cabs that will have better clarity, lighter, and ESPECIALLY better frequency response as I just got a 6 string and would love to really hit that low 30Hz range.

as for price, I'm open to ANY suggestions, but would be happy to keep it around the 500 to 600 range. I will also entertain any number of driver size/quantity option as well.

Thanks for any help you guys might offer!

6x10"s go well with these amps. NV, Svt HLF, What about a Henry the 8x8?
Or a 412- GK?

I was looking at 6x10s only due to the fact that Dan Briggs uses the same head and runs it through an ampeg 610. I do rather enjoy his sound. that being said, I like knowing all the options. any idea how a 610 might compare to an 8x8?

Although I do not use a Sunn 300T as my head, my cabinet is a Mesa PowerHouse 6x10. I love it! To each their own of course, but I love 6x10 cabs, especially mine because it is what I know. I get if not all, but most of the benefits of a 8x10 in a smaller size and weight. I was reluctant at first to 6x10 cabs wanting to make the leap from a 4x10 I was using to a 8x10, but I am glad I met in the middle. I have not had any experience with the other two mentioned cabs personally. As far as reviews I have ready would say, I have read a lot of like for the SWR Henry the 8x8, however I have see a lot of shunning or negativity towards the Ampeg 6x10. I guess most people just go for the typical Ampeg 8x10 at that point. But like I said that is them, if you like it and the sound then by all means, because it is YOU who is buying it and YOU who will be using it.

CABINET OPTIONS

Hello,
I run alot of Sunn amps and cabinets. I do not have a 300T but do have a 1973 Model T which I gig frequently in a loud Hard rock band. I usually use 2 SWR 12 Stacks which are 4x12 cabinets. 8 12"s get it done. I also run it into 2 SWR Goliath III 410 or 2 Sunn 200S cabinets loaded with JBL K-140's. The 300T is a great amp, really a Bassman 300 but a great amp none the less. Check out 12" speakers. Emperor makes a decent 412 bass box. Rock on and sorry if i said anything offensive.

Peace and Happiness to all

You used the words "lighter" and "30hz" in the same sentence. Loud, low and small...pick any 2.

I figured that was the case. a guy can dream can't he? I should have specified, I mean lighter as in lighter than the current 80 lbs 410 cab I currently use. thanks for the chime

Keep in mind no 6x10 will be light. You're better off getting a couple 2x10s.

indeed sir. as long as it has casters and nice padded handles, the "light" comment can become obsolete as far as I am concerned. but your comment is noted. sound > size for this purchase.
