Considering a used Dr. Bass cab? Is it better than what I have?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,

I started my bass playing with a Peavey TNT combo amp, moved on to a Eden Nemesis 210 combo, a bit better, but still not what I was looking for. Next was the new GK mb210, very nice, but decieded to move to a head/cab. I'm currently using a Carvin BX500, which is quite nice with a Carvin BRX10.2 The 10.2 is the nicest sounding cab/combo I've had. I've also compared it to a avatar 410 neo, and I think the Carvin has it easily beat. Better low end, more defination.

Anyway, I always watch the classifieds, and there is a Dr Bass 2460 up right now...2x12/6 & tweet. I asking if I were to pick this up, will it sound much better than what I have now? Is Dr. Bass considered a premium cab? Is the Carvin just average? Another option I considering is getting another BRX 10.2 and stacking vertical.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

a 212/6/t can be pretty sweet, but it's a different tonality than the carvins. more like a pa than a bass cab, which is very cool, just different. honestly, i think either adding a second carvin 210 or getting the dr bass cab would be fine, but we can't pick it out for you.

...if you want to buy it, buy it...but as for Dr.Bass being premium goods, lol, nope, not to me, not by a l-o-n-g shot...and then given what a d-bag the Dr.Bass owner is, I couldn't bring myself to buy one at any price...but that's just me ...

I use the Carvin BRX10.2 with a 1X15 under it. A big sound in a compact and light set-up. Go with a 15" under the 10.2.

That Dr Bass cab is for sure a very good cabinet . I had one a few years ago and it was as good as the Eden cabs I had before it . Very detailed mids and highs , that 6" mid really makes it easy to hear on stage .The lows were more tight than deep but I never did get it to break up at very loud volumes . Mine had the Delta LF 12s and needed some decent power to get loud , thats why I ended up selling it after a few months . I switched to one of his 310 cabs and like the sound and volume better . If the 2460 you are looking at is a 4 ohm it might work very well with the Carvin head though . The 2460 would be a much better stand alone cab .

I haven't tried the Carvin cabinet you have but they are supposed to be very nice too . I kind of like the 10" loaded cabinets and I'd think if you like the one you have a pair of them would be a good idea .

Most of the DR Bass cabs are really good sounding cabs . That makes it even worse that the owner has got so flakey that to buy a new cab from him would border on stupidity . I like and use them but would never buy a new one again but used they are a great deal these days .

As far as I remember than components (ie drivers) of the Dr. Bass are better than the Carvin so I would probably go with Dr. Bass... but definitely used.

Greetings from the North,

The 2460 is certainly worth checking out. I have one that still looks and sounds as great as when I got it 6 years ago and it's been thru rain, sleet.
and snow as well as countless gigs. They are well made and sound great. Despite the horror show that the firm has turned into I think you will be happy to find one used.

I used to have a 2460 Neo, great sounding and well built cabinet. Too bad Marc ruined his reputation , but his product is still a good one.

I ended up with a 2nd used BRX10.2. Now I have the vertical 2 - 210 stack. I use the tweeter on the top cab.

Just thought I'd update.
