Converting an Ampeg SVT 210 AV to 4 ohm

What pair of 10" speakers should I put in an Ampeg SVT 210 AV in order to make it 4 ohms?

For the money, the speakers not being matched, and having 4x10 for more radiating area; I'd get another identical cab.

Sorry not answering the question, but just my opinion and a bump.

I woudn't touch it. If you are trying to get more power out of an amp, don't bother. That cab handles about 200 watts. Most amps can put out at least 150 watts at 8 ohms, so it doesn't pay to change them. Just get an additonal cab. It's a really small cab, and not many speakers will sound good in it. For the record, it has two 4 ohm speakers wired in series to get 8 ohm.

I'm looking to use it with my SVT for practicing purposes. I want the best speakers possible.

Wire the speakers in parallel, to get 2 ohm load, tube SVTs can handle that when properly connected. Remember not to use high volumes, the cab only handles 200W.

Yeah, I've always heard don't bother changing a cab's ohms. Better off just selling it and buying what you want.

Two 8ohm drivers wired in parallel will result in a 4 ohm load.

You can rewire it. Rewiring will give you a 2 ohm load. Don't toast the cab. I'm not positive that you can't safely run an SVT at an 8 ohm load. There was a post about it.

You will still need to run two 4 ohm cabs from the SVT, to get down to 2 ohms, unless you go inside and bypass the first speaker output and tap into the 2 ohm side of the transformer, not worth it me thinks.

Depends on the SVT. Vintage amps didn't have a switch, just two 4 ohm jacks. You'd have to do the B25 dummy plug in the primary out and plug into the second output, and this all depends on what kind of speakers are in the cab (ie assuming they are 4 ohms and can be wired parallel for 2 ohm load).

Right, sorry: I was thinking about modern SVT-CL, that has a switch

Only if they are 4-ohm drivers. If they are 16-ohm drivers in parallel then you can't. So it depends.

And it's an exercise in futility trying to get more power from the amp into a 210 that'll be unable to use it without farting out.
