Converting Combo Cabinet

Sign in to disble this ad
Try saying that 20 times fast.

Anyways, I had a Ampeg B2 for a while, but the amp finally gave up the ghost (I'll have it fixed at some point). I've been using the cabinet, a single 15", under my Bassman 300, but just recently the plug that goes into the head became bent, became stuck in the head, and when I tried to pull it out, the plug broke off the cable. So now I want to rewire the speaker to a female jack with a plate on the back of the cab. Is all I need this (1) and a plate? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Ya, this is a little confusing. You say the plug broke off in the head which to me means there's a broken jack on the back of the head that you're not using. Or maybe it's on the head you are using. Either way, you need a jack like the one in the link you posted on the speaker out on the back of whatever head you're using that works and one on the back of the speaker cab to plug a speaker cable in between. Tip+/shaft-. If you need it to work today, you can get one at radio shack made of cheap, soft, lowgrade metal that'll probably work fine for a few months or a few days depending on user "gentleness". Or you can order a switchcraft and it'll outlive you, there isn't much inbetween. CTS and nutrik are also good quality brands. You'll likely end up with better gear if you pull an old jack off of an old cord, they're made better. Feel the weight and "solidness" of the metal. Been through this whole discussion with my guitar player explaining to him why people were offering big money for his real 1960something danelectro bridge piece. I've had card tables that were built better than Danelectro's but back then, even the cheap stuff is better than the expensive stuff is today when it come to the grade/durability of metal.

Alright, yeah, thanks. It is a bit confusing, sorry. Instead of the cab having a normal input jack, it had a male plug, which broke, so I want to refit the cab with a female jack. I thought that was correct, I just wasn't sure, so thanks.

Yes, all you need is a jack (get a good one) and a jack plate.

If the tip of the plug fell inside your amp, you need to get it out of there before you use the amp again. A loose piece of metal in an amplifier is a sure-fire way to release the magic smoke (aka damage or kill your amp).

Oh yeah, definitely pulled it out. It was stuck in my main speaker out, which would not do!
