Convince me I need this.

I have a chance to buy a really nice set up for a good price. My biggest concern is having room in the car to get it to gigs. Im not sure if it will stand up in the back of a CR-V. Its an Ampeg SVT Classic with road case and Ampeg 610. The gear I am competing with while playing are 2 Mesa Dual Recs. and full drums. My current set up, Acoustic B200H and 410, which I like but sometimes just doesnt cut it. Convince me I need this... or do i just have gas. Thanks

I'd say get it. That head + an 810 is my favorite stack. But I've owned a 610 before and loved it. I'm sure the CL will sound beautiful through it. You wont be dissapointed.

The 610 probably wont stand in your CR-V. But its not too long where it can't lay down with no problem, if you put the back seat down.

Talking about this isn't helping my GAS. Might go sell my 410HLF, SVT 115, and my LH1000 head to help get some cash towards an 810 and a CL! Haha.

if it's a good price you NEED that.
In reality, have you played it? do you like it? I like the svt cl, not a big fan of the 610hlf but own and love a 410hlf.

I played an Ampeg SVT Classic with an Ampeg 6X10 HLF cab for many years. Believe me, it will cut it!

As I passed 58 years old, however, the weight got to me and I sold it in favor of a lighter MarkBass rig with a 4X10 set up. CMD 102 P stacked on a STD 102 HF. It cuts it just as well and is only about 45 pounds per unit as compared to the SVT's nearly 90 pounds in a road case and 120 pounds for the 6X10.

The Mark set up was the best amp decision I've made in a long career. I've never looked back and wished I had the Ampeg instead.

Having said all this, if the price is really good on the Ampeg rig and it beats everything you've tried or can try and you can transport it without busting a gut, go for it. They hold value well and you should be easily able to get out of it when that time comes.

For me that's an immense gigging rig. I keep up with a cranked 80 watt Bogner Shiva, a 100 watt CAE PT100, and a hard-hitting drummer using my Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 and GK 212MBE cab. I'm a huge proponent of portable/easy to carry rigs, though.

Up to you. If you can afford it/carry it then do it!

Depends on the music you play, whether it fits in the vehicle, the band's volume...and how your back is. I personally swore off heavy, large cabs and find that I can do all I need to with the new lightweight gear...and I haven't sacrificed sound quality.

The price is good. I have played this set up in the past, a friend had it, and I liked it. Have not played this particular one yet though. Not sure if I'd have room to lay it down in the C-RV, its our guitarist car and our main gear hauler, I drive a Civic SI coupe, not so much room there. Can fit the 410 in the trunk easy though.

You just said the magic words...........................

NEVER buy gear that you depend on someone else to haul.

You can split from the band or the guitarist could leave tomorrow, then what ??

GAS extends to vehicles, too. Perfect reason to get a 1965/66 Chevy wagon w/a straight six and three on the tree. Or maybe a used Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix--32 mpg and plenty of room for gear.

Anyone have such a Chevy? PM me.

I moved from a GMC Jimmy to a Honda Accord 4 door. My rig went from SVT-II, 810E or GB 610 XB2 to 1001RB or old Peavey into Bag End 210/410 rig or Mesa Diesel 210/115 rig because of portability. Frankly, the Bag Ends ended up being just as much work...

Good point about relying on others to haul gear, although I would trust him with it, been one of my best friends since I was a kid. He usually takes bigger things like cabs kick drum. I usually have all 3 of our amp heads in my car, so it would keep things in check if something ever went wrong, heads are worth more anyway haha. It might fit in our drummers/my brothers, car, and would most likely fit in my fiancees car. hmmm.

Try to convince the band members it's not a competition but a balance. A cooperation of stage volume. If you make it a competition the guitars need very little power to win - compared to you.
