Cool beans!!! (810E vs. Honda content)

Sign in to disble this ad
Holy crap

I just put my Ampeg 810E across the back seat of my Honda Accord!!! I didn't think that was possible!!!

And here is the kicker... I was able to do it by myself. Now that might not be a big feet for some. But at 5' 7" and 130lbs, I am quite proud of myself. The cab weighs more than me!!!!!

I do have a heavy duty slip cover for the cab. I could not do it without it because I basically leaned it over, pushed it in 1/2 way. Then got on the other side and pulled it the rest of the way. If I didn't have the cover the tolex would be shot.

Anyway, just had to say something. And I can confirm that you can get your 810E into a '07 Honda Accord.

Now try putting it in the back of a truck or SUV by yourself.

Now do it on the average of at least three nights a week, in all kinds of weather, for year after year. Oooh, you are gonna be writing an excited post at the end of that period ; }

I look forward to your "How Do I re-Tolex?" posts.

That is very cool - congrats!!

Back in the 60's I had my giant 2x15 cab. I removed my backseat bottom of my '63 Plymouth and made a wooden platform for the back floor so it was level. I rolled the cab up to the car, lifted the front end up to the platform (big handles) and then continued to roll it up and in - much like you, but with wheels.

Maybe you need to cover your seat with something so it doesn't get worn out??

I was just thinking about hitting up the army surplus store to get a heavy wool blanket.

The wheels on the cab can get dirty and mess up the seats.

I'm 5' 7" 110lbs. and used to load a fender 810 into the back of a 1970 torino wagon alone. I have also loaded in the back of an Impreza hatchback. It sure is nice to be in a band with a trailer and a permanent practice room to keep my gear. No more loading by myself.

Yeah, my old band had a trailer. But not my new one. Now I have to hall my own rig around. But at least there is a permanent practice room.

Back in them olden days after loading all the other gear it was loading the keyboard player's Hammond and Leslie into the back of his Cadillac hearse. Sheer hell for 4 people.

Later, I ended up doing a lot of PA hauling 'cause I was stupid enough to buy a van. Then too, the keyboard player started renting my 73-key Rhodes which would just barely squeeze in at the very top.

In my latest incarnation, as a bass player still the main PA guy usually. My van was a 4WD Toyota mini. And I hauled one of these for a bunch of years (though luckily I had other gear for rehearsal space that was pretty impressive too):

Fortunately I'd figured how to get a lot of firepower into a fairly small PA, and put small wheels on the back of the Ampeg cab there (easily as unruly as an 810), and larger ones on the bottom. This made it a tip back and roll operation I could do very quickly even after traversing a snow drift.

But now that I can kill big game at 300 yards with smaller cabs that go just as deep I am happier yet ; }

My Traynor 8x10 fits in the back seat of my volvo. Plus it'll fit a 4x12 in the trunk.

My friend used to put his in his tiny Hyundai by folding down the passenger seat. Then he got a trailer, although it's not a covered one, so he might still have to resort to folding down the passenger seat if it rains.

I don't known about that. The GB is 18" deep and I know that with the Aguilar 810 the fact that it was 18" deep was the deal breaker.

It might, but the doors on my car don't open to 90 degrees and since the 810E is not as deep it lets you turn and shove it in better.

But try it and let me know if you get it in. My friend and I were cramped on time when trying to load the Aguilar so we may have given up too fast.

Why? He has a honda, not a truck or SUV.

Outstanding work! Somewhere I have a photographic evidence of a gigantic Peavey 8x10 crammed into the back of a 2-door Ford Fiesta (tiny British compact car). I'll try and dig it out to post it.

Shall we start a tiny cars / giant cabs thread?
