I've got a '60s Standel that's kind of cool.

It's the only SS amp I own.

I have a 120 watt Kasino head. Kasino was the Plain Jane version of the old tuck and roll Kustoms that were sold in a different market area. They have the same hissssss.
Ditto on the Standels. I had one around 1970.

+100 on old Acoustic Amps (especially the 370 and 320)

The old Sunn SS amps are pretty rad too. A lot of guys like the Beta Bass heads and the Coliseum 300 sounds pretty sick as well.

Walter Woods MI-100-8, MI-400-8 and MI-600-8

Trav Trav,
If someone near you locally has an older Walter Woods MI-100-8 they were being built as of 1980. Since the amp had a Switchmode power supply driving an all discrete FET-based class A preamp with a all discrete linear class AB power amp.
For a brief time, in 1990 Walter offered both a 400 watt and 600 watt version of the same amplifier. All three amps power ratings were for 8 ohms.

I think as far as old-school,SS amps, the Acoustic bass amps are the gold standard. If I still had my 370,I'd still probably gig with it. Yes,they're that good.

another route some guys took in the 70s was to use Alembic tube pre's (F2B) or Furman PQ3 and Crown (D150A, D300A) power amps.

Acoustic and Sunn are pretty well loved.

I'd nominate the Peavey Mark series as well. Reliable, if heavy, and you can get a lot of cool sounds from the ones with two blendable channels.

My father has a Beta Bass combo. It's huge (for combo standards), but it sounds awesome. Despite gigging it for years, it still looks close to mint (that's what a good cover can do for your gear).

Unfortunately, like some gear from that time period, it sounds like a wind tunnel when it's turned on and you're not playing anything.
