Could this cab actually be used for bass?

http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/msg/3634717929.html

It's an Avatar Guitar Cab 4x12 w/ Electrovoice Force speakers (which are PA speakers, I think). Is this guy full of it, or could it actually be used for bass also?

I'm no expert, but I wouldn't think this would work. If it's a cab designed for guitar, then that is how it is voiced.

It could at least handle the power. Whether it would sound good or not, not sure. I've seen a few bass cabs built to look more like a guitar cab. If the guy is close, it's be at least worth bringing your head and checking it out.

It might work for a while but, in the long run it will crash and burn.

Force 12s are only good down to something like 60 or 70hz, and on top of that crammed in a closed back guitar cab... I'm sure it kills with a guitar through it, but I can think of much better setups for a Bass player to spend $400 on. IMHO

Don't do it!

With $4-600 and a little patience you should be able to get a great used cab. ($600 ampeg 810 and $400 peavey 412 bass) on my local CL. I can speak with great authority on buying cabinets out of ignorance. Your volume, tone and wallet will suffer. You might get lucky but I doubt it.

Had a a pair of Vox T60 cabs that had a Force 12 and 15 in each, sounded amazing. Used a Roost 100w valve head with them.

Cool. Thanks for the input, guys. I've heard people say EV speakers are great (even though I've never heard about this particular models), and I was jived on the idea of getting a 4x12 for $400. I suppose I'll pass on this one.

And the search continues......

EV Force were a mid-line speaker (still good drivers) as an affordable alternate to the Pro-Lines.

It WOULD work, as long as you are somewhat conservative with volume and EQ. Whether it would be the right sound for you is up to you to decide.

You could try to take your bass and head and try it out, but understand that to get the most volume out of the cab, you are going to have to probably roll off the low end some on your amp. And that 600 "guitar" watts might only translate to 200-300 "bass" watts.

Anyway, guys back in the 60s/70s used to use similar 4x12s all the time, with a lot less power handling (although usually with 2 or more cabs and less wattage than we have available today).

OP: You could and you would get that classic rock sound, or for that matter classic pop sound. You will not sound modern and it probably not have enough low end or top end. A recently made cheap 15" combo would probably smack it for tonal spectrum response.
