Could this be J Entwistle's Ashdowns and Cases?

Sign in to disble this ad
Alright, I ran across these locally and at first I thought...cool, someone must've really liked The Who....But, upon closer inspection today and a little research on the web, I'm beginning to think that they may be the real deal. I'd like your thoughts and opinions before I offer any money. I'm not asking for a value, just wondering if they could be real. There is no provinance.
Here's the pictures of the Ashdown 212 cabs and scoop and their road cases.
On the cases are the stickers you see below. And here's a link to the Ashdown site with a pic of John and his Ashdown gear....yea, I know that the gear in the JE pic has a little spider type logo on it and this gear doesn't. So, what do ya think?

I don't know, but it's Entwistle, not Entwhistle.

Don't sweat it, common mistake. But how cool would it be if that was some of John's gear!

Well, is it possible that Ashdown made these for anyone else, or was it all custom just for JE? I'm sure they made him more than one rig - probably dozens. If they were his, they were likely one of many road rigs out and about or in a rehearsal or storage facility somewhere.

Either way, they're pretty cool...

Contact Rock-It Cargo UK
http://www.rock-itcargo.com/

USA Rock-It Cargo :: Contact Us

Give 'em the tag number and ask them about it.
You even have a date stamp on it to help them find the record of that shipment.
You may want to hurry as it seems they have new owners(records go away or get lost, etc.)

If that is May 2001, it may also be the rig used here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aH9vKuM-CAQ

There are several things that point to the gear belonging to Entwistle.
1. He used Ashdown late in his career
2. The Who Logo
3. The Rock-It Cargo Sticker which is out of London
4. The JFK sticker showing that the cabs were shipped to New York

You can also contact Ashdown. If you give them serial numbers, they can trace them for you.

If this is the same equip he used (I have no idea) the fact that someone went to the expense of having custom raod cases built makes it very believable to me.

OTOH, I have found that celebrity owned equipment does not often add much value (although it is cool).
The Danny Gatton Tele prototype, Mick Ralph's burst, and 2 Marshall stacks belonging to King's X are 3 examples that friends have owned that documented status meant nothing to the sale price.

And the fact that someone would go to the trouble and expense of freighting such ridiculously large cabs across the Atlantic...

The guy owned so damn much gear in his lifetime, I'd be surprised if each of us didn't have at least one of Ox's basses or amps somewhere in the house...

Of course it would, if it belonged to an icon, especially a deceased legend such as The Ox!

And, don't let the fact that he was nearly deaf by the time he used them deter you in the least.
