Could the MB212 work for me?

I've been flirting with the idea of picking up a GK MB212 combo -- I played the MB115 combo at Guitar Center and really liked the sound of the amp.

Unfortunately, I've been unable to find anywhere to actually try the MB212 out -- supposedly one Guitar Center in Dallas has one, but I'd spend more $$ on the road trip than on the amp.

The "problem" (as I see it) is ME -- I've been a big cab/high power kind of guy for a long time.
  • In my last band, my rig was a Peavey Classic 400 thru a pair of 410s.
  • In my new band, I'm using a Carvin B1500 into a Peavey 412TVX.
  • I play Dingwall 5-string basses and use some distortion, synth, and envelope filter effects.

BUT...
  • I rarely get the volume up on my amp past 8 o'clock.
  • The guitarists are using Bassman 410 combos (50 watts tube)
  • The drummer hits relatively hard, but not Bonzo.
  • My back gives me a lot of trouble.
So I love the idea of a good-sounding 37-Lb amp that could play at rock & roll volumes (~115 dB), but I'm worried that it just won't have the horsepower to tickle my testes and rattle my guts...

Any GK MB owners out there able to provide me any advice??

I'm not an owner, but I'd suggest holding out for the new combos and the powered extension cabs made for them. My understanding is that the new combos are essentially the same as the current except for a dedicated XLR to drive the powered extension cabs. You could get one of these combos and get the extension cab IF you need it.

BTW, GK is supposed to be mod'ing the existing combos for free when you buy one of the new powered extension cabs.

I use the MB210 and my guitarist uses a line6 150 2 12 combo and it hold up well to him. the 212 would crush him. I wouldn't hesitate to get that. I think if i had the opportunity I would get the 212 instead of the 210 just because it is a big increase

mb212 sounds great...i have played it at a outdoor gigs without PA support with two guitarists and a loud drummer. i cant imagine needing the modded powered extension as mentioned above. it def. moves air!

it was a little bass boomy, but i have slightly rolled down the bass and rolled up the low-mid and it really sounds killer in the full band set up. recommended.

the MB212 is a great combo amp and way way loud, you should not hesitate if you already dig the GK MB tone.
