Could you help me build a half decent rig ?

Good Evening Talkbass community,
I currently have only a 15 watt fender practice amp, a few friends and I are starting to jam and I am using a friends amp for that, sooner or later we are going to start doing coffee house gigs and what not. I am going to need a bigger rig to do that, my limit is $800, I dont know how much wiggle room I have under that price range. I particularily dont know what brands are reliable and what are horrible. I am not so sure I want a combo amp, I would prefer to get a head and a cabinet I think. Could you suggest some head's and cabinets to me ? It would be greatly appreciated

Ampeg pf500 and 115 portaflex cab is the first amp that comes to mind. There are lots of threads on this amp you can read up on. Most seem to be realy pleased with them. I believe the price for that rig is right at $800.

Forgot to mention if buying new. There are lots of deals to be had on the used market. The classifieds sec on this site usually has some really good buys.

+1. You can find a used 300-500w head and 410 which should cover any of those types of gigs for as low as $300-400.

I use a hartke lh500 head paired with an avatar b210 neo cab and although I have yet to gig, (working on that) this is an outstanding rig in my opinion. It should be plenty loud enough to handle any coffee shop or small bar.

I don't think you specified any aversion to buying used, but I got my rig right here on the TB classifieds for less than $400 better bang for the buck with used.

Good luck on your search.
