Hey all,
I've got a gallien-kruger 700RB-|| that has been acting up. When i mess with the volume knob the amp makes a very loud crackle noise. Anyone know what the cause may be? Thanks in advance

So I take it that the crackling noise only happens while you are turning the pot? If that's the case, you might just need to clean the pot. Some contact cleaner could do the trick. Worst case scenario I would figure would be you'd need a new pot.

besides a dirty or worn out potentiometer, sometimes it can also be that the pot's solder contacts to the pcb need to be resoldered. i had to resolder a couple of them on my SVP-CL when it was acting up.

you open up the chassis, and spray just a tiny bit of Cramolin DeOxit in the pot's wiper slot, then turn the pot back and forth a few times.

Did you mean Caig DeOxit, johnk10?. Cramolin Red/Contaclean has been scarce around here I believe. There's also a bit of soap opera behind the it, apparently. Caig has a confusing array of products but I think the one to use in this case is the Caig F series Faderlube. According to their tech bulletin you can also use their 100% concentration products. Regular contact cleaners will also work but may change the feel and longevity of the pot due to the removal of lube.
