That's my thoughts. |

Either the speakers get blown/ripped/etc... or the x-over gets fried, etc... Worst case you buy 2 new 10s (not necessarily the same as the originals), tweeter, and a new x-over from Trace. The x-over just screws into the cab and then you MIGHT have to solder a few wires between the x-over and the speakers. An untrained monkey could probably figure out how to replace the speakers themselves in about 15 minutes (he might wire them out of phase though).
For a more "ghetto" fix, just get the 2 new 10s (if that's what's needed), and replace the jack plate/x-over with a block of wood the same size and just drill a hole in the middle of it for a 1/4" jack. Considering you can get cheap decent 10s for like $50, you could have the whole thing fixed for well under $200 if you go that route.
Then again you might totally screw it up. Trust your judgement. |

However, its worth looking to see if the speaker wires have come loose, etc. This is a solid cab, it just needs new speakers (if thats the real issue). I'd just on it if it were local to me.

Solid cab, xlr and 1/4 IO, and a control pot is worth the $50-$60.
go... now..

It should travel a short distance smoothly. Blown speakers will not move smoothly, they will feel rough like something is rubbing. If the speakers travel smoothly then it's probably electrical which would be a less expensive fix.
It's very reasonable to ask to remove the grill when trying out a speaker cab. You may want to practice moving the speakers on one that you know works so you can get a feel for it. Again DON'T push the middle part of the speaker - it is fragile. The surrounding part is fine.
But as others have said, it's a decent deal regardless.

I say keep looking cause you will probably find a better done soon. I found a peavey 410 on craigslist for $50 that only had a blown tweeter works perfect otherwise. Just be patient |

try buying that for 70 bucks | Yep good point, even at 70 bucks you still get a fully made cabinet with all the parts needed to have a working cab.
All you need to do is replace the speakers and it done.
But for the most part it dont work...so your still paying money for a big paper weight.
If your just going to spend money on cheap speakers..i say its a waste of money...find a working cab
If you throw in some good speakers it would be worth the investment. A pair of speakers is going to be 140 to 200 dollars
putting the total cost to 200 to 270 dollars
maybe you could find a used 2x12 for 300$
heck a 4x10 can be found for that much...used 8x10 goes for 400$
All depends if you really really want a 2x10...i know i dont....10" speakers barely hit 92 to 94dB when a 12" can be 96 to 98dB
So if you really love 2x10, get good speakers because your going to dump alot of power into it..to make up for the low sensitivity.
should be a fun project, if yah take it on
Just a few extra dB of sensitivity can save almost twice as much amplifier power. |

Your back will someday punish you for that... Put casters on one end and it's not bad though. Those are nice sounding cabs, because they're 'tuned' to the drivers... so you have to be sure you're getting the right drivers (or fix the ones that are in it, assuming they're the right ones- probably Celestion GT8s or whatever).
The other thing is you might consider what other cab you'll pair it with. I'm now on the page of matching cabs with other like cabs... 10s with identical 10s/cabs, etc. But maybe that's another thread.
