Crazy Rumble Coming From Speaker Cab...HALP!!

Sign in to disble this ad
OK n00b here. kms, read FAQ, all understood already so plz just help me! (plus I read the FAQ and it didn't answer my question).

So I am running a Little Mark III through a Carvin BR410 (300W at 8 Ohms) and I just put it altogether today (cab just came) and I am getting this DISGUSTING noise whenever I play the B or A on my E string. just ****ing nasty mud.

First thing I tried was lowering my volume all the way and trying to hear how the speakers sound. The cab is used so I was wondering if that was the issue. I discovered what sounds to me like one of the speakers is busted/in bad shape as there is a slightly audible distorted sound coming out of the top left speaker (does this sound like a correct assumption gurus?).

But even when I turn it up it just sounds nasty.

Any help here is super duper appreciated (and you know you like to feel smart, so halp pleeez!)

You have only posted this 20 minutes ago. Not everyone owns that cab or that head.

If by "cage" you mean the front grill, it is possible that the grill is making the rattling by not being securely attached to the cabinet. You can remove it and see if it makes any difference.

Being used in and of itself is not a fault, just like a used car is not inherently a piece of junk. But if you bought it in bad condition, it will continue to be in bad condition until you repair it.

Turning up the volume just makes the bad louder. Don't expect a problem to go away just because you put more juice into it.

You need to isolate each of the 4 10-inch drivers and check if it is functioning correctly. It sounds like you're already focusing on the top left driver as bad, but you need to disconnect each one and test them individually. If the driver is bad, replace it. If multiple drivers are bad, it might be more cost effective to get a different cab.

It sounds like this was shipped to you: I would contact the person who sold this to you immediately and work out this transaction.

ROFL! Having a bad day, are we, Moss?

Anyway, I would say your assumption is correct, but in a larger sense it sounds like the cab's been abused. So... I'd pull all the drivers, check the wiring to make sure it's in place and tight, push each cone with spread fingers to see if there's a scraping sound (voice coil scraping the magnet). It's possible one or more drivers aren't working but are vibrating because they're in the same cab with the good driver(s). You could do the flashlight battery test on the whole cab and see if ALL the drivers move (and make sure they move in the same direction -- just in case someone's mucked around in there already). Also, while you're pulling the drivers, check to see if one or more weren't tightened down against the baffle board.

Let us know & we'll go from there.

Yes, it sounds like someone sold you a busted up bass cab. Always best to test these things when you buy used. New, you have a warranty. And, get yourself a good dose of patience. It's not a "live chat" board here.
