Crest CA9 users?

I found a good price on a used Crest CA9. Should be here next week. My pre-amp is a Peavey MaxBass. I've been doing some research on the power amp's attenuators, one article indicated to leave them wide open and control everything from the pre-amp. Any suggestions on this?

You may find that with the amp wide open you have a very touchy volume knob on the preamp, with anything beyond the first quarter turn or so louder than you ever really want to play.

I would find a point on the attenuator where the range of motion on the preamp is comfortable and leave it there.

I've always just left the level controls at full on my power amps. That said, the the above post is perfectly reasonable.

Well, I've got it hooked up. What a great amp! Totally clean! Leaving it wide open still gives me lots of rotary control on my pre-amp master gain knob.

My plan with my upcoming fEarfuls is to bi-amp, with my Crest ss amp driving the woofers, and my MesaBoogie tube amp driving the mids.
