Crown Macro tech question

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys. After some cleaning in my church we came across an older Crown Macro Tech 2400 that hasn't been used so kinda interested in using it for a preamp/ poweramp setup in the future. Any input on how this poweramp performs in a bass rig and also I've heard about it's high power draw from outlets that are big deal when using this amp so any info on that matter will be greatly appreciated.

They are great old iron amps.
They will work well for a bass rig as long as you don't mind all off the weight it will add to your setup.
And yes, they are AC power hungry.

Even if you got it for free I would pass on using it for a bass rig.
For what you can buy new power amps for that will be nicer on your back and AC power, you are better off leaving the heavyweight old iron poweramps for club/bar install use where they won't have to be moved and can be put on there own AC circuit.

I used all kinds of Crowns including the MT 2400 for a LONG time as a bass player.

I don't think there is anything that sounds better. If the amp is new enough to accept PIP modules, you can use the DSP to just about make that amp do anything.

It has enough power to theoretically blow a breaker but in reality given the nature of bass guitar signals, you will vaporize any bass cabinet you plug into it long before you start to heat the breaker.

Having said all that, the light weight stuff has come far enough along that hauling that beast hunk of metal is not enough of a sonic improvement to justify the grunt.

IMHO
