Crown XLS1000 vs XLS1500?

Sign in to disble this ad
Running a Sansamp RBI and possibly another pre in the future into an Ashdown ABM810 cab (1200 4 ohm)

The 1000 runs at 1100 (bridged mono 4ohm)
The 1500 runs at 1550 (bridged mono 4ohm)

People out there that use Crown power amps etc, which would you recommend? Do I need the headroom of the 1500 or will 1100 into 1200 manage well?

______________________XLS 1000____XLS 1500
Stereo, 2 ohms (per ch.)____550W_______775W
Stereo, 4 ohms (per ch.)____350W_______525W
Stereo, 8 ohms (per ch.)____215W_______300W
Bridge-Mono, 8 ohms_______700W______1050W
Bridge-Mono, 4 ohms______1100W______1550W

the power difference at 4 ohm bridge does not matter so much
I don't think you will be lacking power at 1100W into a 810

but you will feel the difference if you want to run 4 ohm stereo for example with 350W/525W in to 410('s)

I would go for the 1500, because its the same size/weight too

Conclusion: For the purposes of my 8x10 either will suffice however, the 1500 will provide greater versatility with other cabs/stereo options should I decide to venture that way in the future?

+1 Exactly.

If the cost difference isn't a big deal to you, get the 1500, I did, I am very happy, the 1000 probably would have done the job just as well but it's never a bad thing to have an extra couple of watts of headroom if you can afford it
