Crown XTI 2002 or XLS Drivecore 2500

I am needing a power amp for with my Epifani Quest II preamp. I have narrowed it down to two the XLS 2500 being the lightest at just under 11 pounds.
Any experience or opinions on this would be appreciated.

I'll go Crown any day--maybe a personal bias from my experiences with'em. YMMV

There's bound to be someone who knows the answer to this, but I can share some personal experience.

Had an XTI for a hot second and me and a few friends have found that line to be a bit dodgey...wound up going with a QSC GX7, which is just...ok

LOVED the sound of the Peavey IPR 3000, but had some problems early on and didn't have time to troubleshoot with a tour coming up and returned it and got the QSC.

They're both Crown.

I've got an XTI2000 in my PA.

XTI2002 has upgraded fully tweakable hard limiting, handy if you let other people use your rig or find yourself prone to blowing up stuff.

You can set up EQ profiles which you could use to switch between songs, 3sec or so is too long time between changes to use within songs on mine, maybe fixed on 2002?

It allows a full biamp with any preamp with highpassing of the lows on the "sub" also.

Shortly after I bought a new XTi 2000 in '07 it started cutting out. I called Crown and they knew exactly what the problem was. The flat cable that goes from the front panel display to the board had a slightly undersized plug at the board end. It was a bad batch, as they say in the biz. They sent me a new, upgraded display module (cable attached) and allowed me to install it myself without voiding the warranty. How cool is that? The unit has been rock solid ever since. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase one of the new second generation XTi amps.

I just bought two new XLS 2500's. Stuck one in the PA and one in my bass rig. Also picked up two used 1500's...one for the subs and one for the backup bass rack. And to further complicate matters, I carry a QSC PLX 1602 as a back-up. I think that should cover it.

FWIW, contact Ryan Arthur at www.estudiostar.com for some competitive pricing on the Drivecore line. Best price I could find.

So how do you like the XLS 2500's for the bass rig?

Overkill...but they weren't that much more than the lesser-powered models. Watts is cheap. I have the luxury of swapping / re-assigning amps amongst the PA and bass rigs when necessary.

I've had no problems using the 2500 in bridged mono to drive a 1000 watt LDS 8 X 8 cab. Sounds great and I can pick the rack up with one hand now. You may want to experiment with the 50 hz high pass filter with respect to driver protection.

The Damping factor on the XLS 2500 is >200 and on >500 on the XTI 2002 might have to take on the xtra 10 lbs. of the XTI. That's an important spec when it comes to tight bass IMHO.
