Crown XTI2000 going into thermal mode after startup.

Something is up with my Crown XTI2000 amp. When I turn it on, it will sit in Thermal mode (with no signal going to the amp). When I shut the amp down and restart it, it starts up normally (goes into Thermal mode for a split second, before dropping into no-signal mode -- zero green bars. That's normal).

Also, the digital readout is often blank from the get-go, or I will notice the screen is blank halfway through my session.

Background: I'm only using the amp once a week to power subwoofers. I bought the amp used from Craigslist about 1.5 or 2 years ago. So I doubt Crown cares about my problem.

Should I try to repair/tune-up this amp? I hate digital menus for this exact reason (more stuff that can break).

I would still contact Crown. It maybe a known issue they have a fix for.

I would see what Crown have to say! apart from the usual shouldn't you have saved up for a lead sled Macrotech for subs, personally I would be interested in looking at all mains supply components and voltages outside your amp first.
Sounds like you need to bump a little something into the power supply caps before it can get the current to start up.
Might be a venue supply voltage issue, is this a permanent instillation or are you moving it.
PS could be just some dust has got into a relay somehow.

I didn't say the amp shuts itself down.

The amp goes into Thermal mode on startup, so I turn the amp off (because I don't want to have the amp sitting there in Thermal mode). When I boot up the 2nd time, it behaves normally (except the digital menu screen is blank).

I would definitely contact Crown. Those of us who own or are considering purchasing one of their amps would be very interested in how this turns out. Hopefully, they will care about your problem. Here is a link to a problem (and solution) I had a few years ago with my XTi 2000.

Crown XTI 2002 or XLS Drivecore 2500

I'll get the serial number tonight (at my practice space) and contact Crown this weekend.
