Curious about Acoustic..

Sign in to disble this ad
We don't have them in Australia (at least not anywhere that I have seen), was just a bit curious about the company really. Are they an old 'big name' that stopped doing anything then got bought out by Guitar Center or something to badge generic products with? Or are they a big player like Ampeg? Or something entirely different?

Cheers!

Robbie Krieger and John Paul Jones used them by the looks of it, surprised that I haven't heard more about them than I have! And the dude from the Black Crowes too!

This is the rumor, recently confirmed by my GC sales guy.

I just bought a piece of Acoustic gear from my local GC. After trying several units, they all have the same annoying flaw (all of which shall remain non-descript--I don't really want to bash just yet). However, I have sent e-mails to their CS department (the only possible way to contact them, no phone number available anywhere) hoping for an explanation or advice and have been summarily ignored for the past several weeks.

Of course, the GC sales guy is no help either, but that's par for the course.

Not good.

And do they only do this new Guitar Centre stuff? Or are the Acoustics that Flea and the dude from the Crowes play better quality gear? I can only find two solid-state models on their site..

I'm sure myself and others are interested in what the flaw is. Could you simply explain it without "bashing"?

GC bought the name and use it for certain product lines. There is a new MIA Acoustic line producing the old 360 type stuff. check TB for thread. better explained very pricey...

the Acoustics (made in USA) that Flea is currently using are a completely different animal than the GC ones (overseas amps), and IMO, are not comparable at all, both in price and quality. IMO, the GC ones are entry level amps and the USA ones are boutique quality, which is also reflected in their respective prices.

the USA ones are new versions of the old 360's with ALOT of modern changes (and improvements) while still maintaining quite a bit of the their vintage vibe. the GC ones have almost no resemblance of the original vintage acoustic amps, other than the appearance and name badge on them.

+1 for JohnK. The GC Acoustic stuff is made with chipboard and bears no resemblance to the stuff Robbie Krieger and JPJ used. And the stuff the guy from the Crowes endorses is the GC Acoustic stuff, while Flea is endorsing the USA Acoustic stuff.

It's not bass gear. And I've already taken a swipe at the CS department.
