Curious... New Carvin amps vs. Older Carvin amps...

Sign in to disble this ad
does someone know the real differences between the current generation of Carvin bass amp (which seem pretty well respected here) and their older "Red Line" amps?

Is it just labeling, or are they really different? I see these RedLine amps on ebay going for next to nothing...

thanks

I've owned a Redline R600 and now own a BX1200. Two completely different animals. The Redline compressor was next to useless (even with more ability to tailor it). The compression on the BX series works far better though it only uses one knob. The Drive function on the BX series adds some dirt to the sound (kind of a GK grindy tone). The parametric EQ is more versatile on the BX series as well. The newer ones have more power and seem to be more accurately rated than the Redline (given my experience with them anyway).

Having said that...I thought the R600 was a pretty good amp and it served me well for quite a long time.
