Hey. first post, long time lurker.
Recently a buddy of mine got a custom head built by a dude here in town. Built after a 70's 100wt HYWAT. the thing sounds great, but i was more impressed with the craftsmanship he used to put together the shell of it; dove tailed joints, nice finish on the birch, not far of from the likes of Emporer cabs. I ended up getting my 68' sunn head refurbished by him and started talking to him about doing a custom bass cab. He said he's done a 2x18 (which looks and sounds outstanding). So, basically he's gunna do one for me for cost of material, just dosen't want to do another 2x18.
I'm thinking somthing like the Matamp 8x10, sept w/ 4 12's on top and 2x15's cross the bottom, not sure what kind of driver's i'll b doing yet...
what would you do? |

2x18, 4x15, 6x12, 10x10, 6x8
to run at 4 ohms
but i would settle for a nice 2x15 and a 8x10 that could run at 8 ohms each

Also, I'll just take two lightweight 1x12's w/ a micro head that features a tube preamp.
Thanks Mesa! |

Since you asked "what would you do," my answer is that I would spend months of spare hours in the library, read piles of tech reports and journal articles, and obsess. Get plans from a couple different places (check fEarful, Bill F's, http://archives.telex.com/archives/EV/Builders%20Plans/, etc). Decide on which speakers. Draw up a half-dozen plans, make a build list, change my mind. Repeat for diff speakers. Take time to ponder why I'm single again.
More clever would be to grab a design that's already been tested and vetted (there's lots, check the Amps FAQ) and spend your time fixating on what color grill cloth. |

If Flite (or anyone) could make a cab from their "space age" material that would stand up to the lows the Bag Ends put out, without any buzzes, rattles, or exploding it would be awesome. I love the Bag Ends, but they're kinda heavy. The same performance in a lighter cab would be wonderful.
The last thing I need is another 3 ton 12' tall cabinet. I've owned many of them, down to 1 now. I like the look and feel they bring, but several small cabs adds up to one big one but can actually be transported.

I'd get a Neodynium 412 cabinet, 8 ohms, in one cab, so it's just slightly larger than a 410 and not like an 810. (Like a GK Neo 412 but in a slightly larger Neo 410 cab)
And a GK Neo 212

For me, a Berantino NV 6x10 or NV215.
For my style of music, they can't be beat.

Would look really impressive in the bedroom, though.

highs are for guitars anywho | The deal is that the two cabs are good for a couple kilowatts of power, good in frequencies that most cabs can't come close to producing and volume levels that most cabs can't touch. The sub weighs in in the low 40's for weight while the top cab is in the 50's.
They're good for very low, very clear very loud. If you combine that with the Dingwall, with a 37" low B string and enough power to drive the lows (I have a Peavey IPR 4500 on order for the rig), what you have is mass distruction. All of which will fit easily in the back of my car and the whole thing is around 100lbs combined.

Much more! An enclosure has to support the drivers that you choose in size, volume and porting. Not doing so will result in the infamous crap shoot and possibly damaged drivers.
