Custom Cab/ Speaker Suggestions

Sign in to disble this ad
So I'm in the market for a new cab. I know a few people that can properly build the box itself, so all I need is the speakers. I'm thinking either a 15 and 2 10's or a 6x10.

My head is Ampeg SVT re-issue. Which will run at either 2 or 4 ohms at 300 watts. I need some speaker suggestions. I play in a rock band I want a more gritty rock sound with lots of low end. I was thinking Celestions would be good but I can't decide between the orange label and green label. I haven't really looked into much more than those.

So I guess what I'm asking is if you were in my shoes what cab would you want? The 15 w 2 10's or the 6x10? I am leaning more towards the 15/2x10. Also, what speakers would go in the cab?

If it matters at all my bass is a Fender American Standard.

Thanks for your help

There's far more to building a speaker than having carpentry skills and following someone else's preference for drivers that more often than not isn't based on anything more than "I like mine". Look at the fEarful threads to see the right way to go about it.

Sweet thanks for your help. I understand there is more too than just building a box.

I can't comment on building the box as I've never done such a project. I do however believe you would be happier with the 6x10 setup. Or even a 15x 4-10's like the Mesa Boogie Powerhouse cabinet.

Bill FM won't (or can't) recommend this himself, but check out his Omni15 Tall Boy design. I seriously considered building one before deciding on a fEarful instead. I still might build a BFM Omni 15TB one of these days.
