To cut or not to cut

Hey all, I have a carvin bx1200 inside a SKB 2u shallow case. Everything is good except that the bottom back of the skb case is on the way to connect the power cord and the xlr output of the bass amp. What are your recommendations, to cut a little piece out of the bottom of the case or get something different? Thanks in advance

Sounds like you're using one of their x-racks?

If so, I'd ditch it for one of their better racks.

It will be a few dollars more, but the build quality is WAY better and the materials are heftier (without being much heavier).

I have both, and I'd really never consider gigging with the x-rack, especially with that really crappy back lid and lip.

I have two of the 4-space x-racks and have had the same problem. In one case, I soldered up a short power cord that went to a powerstrip in the case, and unplugged it before putting the cheesy back lid on. I HATE the way the back is made on these racks! I also had to carve out little openings in the back lip for other connections.

I bought some power cords from Parts Express that had 90 degree connections to the amp, which helps, but I think I might give up and buy the better racks that BurningSkies recommended.

+1 and +1 again

When I got started back playing late last year I needed a rack case for a new amp. I looked at all the fabric rack cases, the X rack and everything else being passed off as a travel worthy rack case these days. The skinflint in me was sorely tempted to try one of the low cost alternatives to a good rack case and I was even rationalizing the savings using the fact I would mostly just be dragging the new rig across town instead of across country.

In the end I looked at my 20 year old SKB case and all the gouges and scratches on it, and thought about how clean and "as new" the more than 20 year old amp inside looked and made the right choice.
