Question Daisy chaining w/ speakons & 1/4 inch

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Harkte LH1000 that I want to push an Avatar 210 and an Avatar 212. In bridge mode, the LH1k only offers a speakon ouput. The Avatar cabs only have one speakon jack each. Is it ok to hook up the amp via speakon to one of the cabs, then daisy chain the two cabs with a 1/4 inch speaker cable? Or do I need to ONLY use speakons? Thanks

While you can bridge using 1/4" phone plugs it is inadvisable to do. In bridge both the tip and the metal sleeve are hot with respect to ground. if the sleeve contacts any other grounded object your amp is at risk. If you pull a phone plug out of the cabinet there is a momentary short and your amp is a risk. Making up a parallel box with three speakon sockets is very easy as is retro fitting a speakon into your cabs instead of the phone sockets.
