David Ellefson quits Peavey (back with Hartke)

Just found out watching this :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7j_WrD9FaI

He used an LH1000 with two HX810s on the Rust In Peace 25th Anniversary Tour.

I wonder if I'll still use his Peavey signature bass.

He'll just stop using Peavey amplifiers.

Also this just made me realize I should be scooping.

In the video he mentions that his tone EQ's are set flat. Does he mean bass, mids, and treble set at 5 (twelve O'clock position)? Cause as far as I know, flat on the LH500/1000 would be 2-10-2.

Saw them about a month ago and he used his Jackson all night except for the peavey bass for one song. Rust in Peace tour.

Can't be more "Rust in Peace" than that.

He didn't mention the Bright-switch and the Limiter of his LH-1000.

I met him a couple of years ago, he seemed like a really nice guy. I think he was playing Peavey then, but it's hard to remember.

Are you sure Peavey didn't basically drop him, or cut his pay, so he went to Hartke? I mean he's not even in a band anymore, he quit Megadeth (or was fired or something who knows w/ Dave M.)

EDIT: whoops I just saw that apparently he re-joined MD in Feb, though I haven't read a lick about that in any of the magazines... I guess I should get around to looking at this dvd I have of MD playing in texas last month...

That's kind of odd, considering he's been head of artist relations for Peavey for a few years now. Wonder if he's still got the job.

Peavey is marketing s**t. I met and had a long conversation with Steve Cropper about the time they released his signature guitar. He basically said that it was for the money, not one he would use. I also met Hartley Peavey that same day, or the next. What a jerk. Basically a self-absorbed a**hole, imho. This was in summer, 1999? I never liked Peavey before, and my opinion was reinforced that day. Maybe when he started out, but he sold out.

Wow, it's so cool that you met Steve Cropper and had a long chat. I am jealous.

Mr. P has provided work for a lot of people including at least two members of this site, and the company has some excellent products, some of which bear the Peavey name and others (Crest, Trace Elliot, etc.) that were picked up in smart business moves.

I'm not a big fan of Bill Gates, but I confess that I use some MS products...

Well let me tell you a secret. When you run a multi-zillion dollar business like Peavey (never mind one that is your own brain-child raised with your own sweat, blood, and blisters like Hartley's) sometimes you do what you have to do just to keep it going. I'm just glad he didn't do like Ampeg, and I'm glad with what Peavey did do with Trace Elliot and Crest. I can still send any old-time Peavey gear for service to them in Miss. and I won't ever hear "we don't support those models anymore" which is what a lot of the other manufacturers do say these days (on models just a few years old.)

And c'mon, are you really shocked to find out endorsements are 'basically for the money?' I hate to tell you but Peyton Manning probably doesn't eat Wheaties 'Fuel' every morning either...

I've only heard good things about Hartley Peavey, I've never had the opportunity to talk to the man personally so it's all hearsay. I just know that when your someone as high profile as that, they have a lot of people wanting to talk to them... and sometimes they might not be in the best of moods at the time so I try and cut them some slack. I have to agree with quilttopjazz and hrgiger at least he's stuck it out in the US, and tries to provide an affordable and durable product.

As for DE, it is kind of a weird move especially since Peavey did a big story on their monitor about his return to Megadeath. Maybe he just got a case of GAS and decided to go back to Hartke.

Sold out to what? Do you naively think anyone manufactures commercial equipment for sale is not interested in profit?
