Remember this thread?
I pre ordered a DNA DNS-112N Cabinet almost four months ago. As anticipated, just like any startup, the guys had some supply, QC and production issues to address but the wait is over!
My cab is shipping this week, should see it Thursday. I will post pics as soon as soon as it hits my porch. I guess I will be the first Average Joe (er, Jeff) TB'er to get a production model of the DNA DNS-112N. You other pre order folks should post yours as well.
David Nordschow is baaaaaaaack.
I will post a humble review after rehearsal on Saturday.

My "tone" is clanky pick heavy ala Dave Meros of Spocks Beard and Mike Dirnt of Green Day. I play a toaster equipped Ric 4003 and a Nordy NJ4SE equipped American JB. My preamp is a Pod X3 Live and my poweramp is a QSC 1804. My current cab is a very "colored" Schroeder 1210L. My favorite past rig before this was an Eden WT-800C and a pair of D112XTs.
Now that I've told you that, I'm sure my opinion won't mean squat to a vast majority of the folks on TB, but I'll do my best.

I'm just playing it in my practice room at moderate volumes with a cheap combo's power amp section running it. Like I've said before, it'll be powered by a QSC 1804 this weekend when I rehearse with my band.
I use a Pod X3 live as a preamp running a model of a SVT/810 rig or a model of a WT-500 DC410XLT to the house or for recording. For all intents and purposes, this DNA - like the Schroeder 1210L I used today - is my stage monitor. The SVT/810 model is my Nirvana/Soundgarden/Zepplin sound. The Eden Rig model is my Green Day sound.
The first impression that I get is unlike my Schroeder, it gives me exactly what I put in. Even with the low power I'm providing it, it's tight and colorless but not dry like some hifi bass cabs I've heard. It's also very percussive. I can literally hear the difference between my .94 Clayton's and my 1.07s.
Don't get me wrong, I really like my Schroeder. It cuts through perfectly. My impression is this DNA will cut through too, without the major EQ'ing I have to do on my 1210L.
I really, really think finger style folks are going to be very pleased because they are going hear their fingertips clearly for the first time. Pick style folks like me will have to concentrate harder hitting the string just right because like a Les Paul, this cab will not muffle a persons bad technique.

Its a feather.

In regards to the corner handles, I just don't think it's that great an idea on large cabs especially if you're carrying all your stuff by yourself because the higher positioning provides less leverage on the cab.

I had a TC Electronics RS210 with the updated finish. Even then, if you beathe on it, it would chip. It's not the finish, its the fact that there is wood underneath. I prefer rat fur for all its shortcomings.
One thing I'm not happy about on the DNA cab is the metal corners. Those things are gonna get the crap beat out of them. Quote:

There were several folks on DNA's user forum that made your same point. It is difficult to stack 410s with that type of handle. Genz Benz Ubers are a good example of that. The saving grace of the GBs and the DNAs is the fact that they aren't 93 pound behemoths anymore, (though 79 pounds ain't exactly light).
You know...
I just can't get over how much sound I'm getting out of this little cabinet. It's smaller than an Eden D112XLT, up untill now, my alltime favorite cabinet. My biggest knock against the D112XLT was it would fart like a bean eating cowboy if you didn't give it ample, clean power.

Just wondering in case of a speaker change, how will removing the grill affect that assembly. I guess I'm in the minority in that I prefer it on the back or side like the Markbass cabs. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
