Db 112 or Gs 112 with Upright?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got an AG500 this week with a DB410 cab. I now am looking to get a DB112 for smaller gigs and to use with the Upright /electric bass. Does anyone have any experience with using DB112 or the GS112 with upright basses?

Your pickup and pre will have a lot to do with it as well. I have found that some combinations HATE each other. I haven't played through a GS but on specs alone I would go for the DB - it has a fuller mid presence which is really what you want. It still has a huge bottom end though so you may need to tame it. The AG500 - I found to be a bit limited EQ-wise so if you get a harsh or boomy frequency you're going to want an LR Baggs or similar.

thanks for the tip on LR Baggs i’ve never heard of them before. Currently i use a Realist pickup and run thru an outboard Sadowsky preamp. I think the DB112 will be a good fit also hopefully not too boomy.

Id post on the Double Bass forums for this info. Suffice to say the DB will be far better than the GS112. I haven't had a ton of luck with the GS using my upright(with a Realist). Its too scooped sounding and you endup getting an exaggerated low end that is difficult to tame(good for electric though). The DB cabs are a LOT more balanced.
