Hey guys-
It's no secret...Willis is my favorite. Wondering if any of you are dragging the DB750/GS112 rig around for small jazz/fusion hits. Obviously, it's way more firepower than anyone would need for a small gig...but how does it sound at lower volumes?

W | IME,
its more a too much blooming low end kinda thing, but usually its something i'll only hear if i'm standing too close or off axis from the rig. other than that, killer combo. a pair of gs112's w/ the 750/1 is a thinger of awesome. |

It sounded OK, but not amazing - maybe the small single cab and the 8 ohm load didn't justify such a powerful amp...? Eventually, I replaced the DB750 with an Aguilar AG500 SC, which actually sounded better (to my ears at least) with just the single GS112 cab. I also had a GS412 in my 'Aggie' days, and that sounded great with both amps! |

the gs112/ag500 is obviously a terrific match. my goto for many many many of my smaller volume needs. much faster feeling under the fingers than a 750. |

Of course this thread is making me want to A/B with an AG500. |

I gotta say - I'd never do that. For jazz gigs where you don't need to throw tons of air, I'd get a much smaller - maybe even class D - head to match that cab. But that's me. |

Although last night I was with my live hip-hop band and the cab was begging for a partner to share the load. |

Tonally it was OK provided you leave the EQ flat and even roll off the bass knob a little. I too was much more impressed with the AG500 and one GS112. Great combo. For my small gigs, I've had GREAT results with my DB750 into a single Accugroove Tri112L. |

The Ag500 would be much better for that jazz gig IMO, but that doesn't mean you can't carry it to small gigs and sound great.
You'll have killer forearms in a very short time |

| | Registered User | | | | | As mentioned, I had both a DB750 and an AG500 driving a GS112 once, but eventually, I moved on, and I'd say that a Markbass F1/F500 (which I also used for a while) or a TC Electronic RH450 (which I currently use) sounds just as great as the AG500 with that cab, and those are even lighter than the AG500. The RH450 is also great for taming my double bass (that really needs some semi-parametric EQ treatment to sound right - especially in the mid bands, but having semi-parametric on all four bands is extremely flexible and versatile, IMO/E)! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
