DB751...now whats the perfect cab?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I just traded for an Aggie DB 751 (thanks Alphaman)...now I need a cab. Any suggestions? I've played through a DB 410 and believe it or not I wasn't pleased with the tone. It had lots of growl but not that "thump" I need. I play mostly gospel and r&b. I've tried hartke hydride 410 and I actually preferred it over the DB 410.

What a about the Epifani ul410? Anybody use this combination? Thanks for the help.

If you post a few links to Youtube videos in which the bass sounds the way you want to sound, we'll be in a better position to recommend cabs for you.

I would suggest you give the DB 410 another shot. It's magic with the DB 750/751. Great combo for gospel and R&B.

Ok I'll see what u can find. I play mainly an MTD 635 or Sadowsky Metro R5-24. I like a clear tone with fat lows but crisp highs for slapping. So far the Hartke Hydrive is the closest I've heard to finding "my sound"...just wondering what other options are out there. Only GC and Sam Ash where I live.

Didn't like the voicing of markbass or GK but haven't been able to play Epifani but I've only heard great things about them.

Perhaps try the Aguilar GS 410. The Aggie stuff pairs up well together.

Bergies Baby!

I really like the Bergantino HS410's or HS210's paired with my DB751. When playing with the band I can imagine they would give you the tone you describe. At least in my minds ear.

Definitely the GS410. Also the eden XLT. Had a UL410. Great cab but the GS just works!

You're welcome! Aww man, I've played just about everything and the DB410 was my favorite very close to the Epifani PS410! I like them for different sounds though. The DB410 is definitely a mid focused cab though and not nearly as bright in the upper ranges as the Epifani UL or the Berg cabs. Have you played the Epifani PS cabs? I actually preferred the Epifani PS over the UL series because they seem to have more low mid thump and a really nice tweeter for slap.

No I haven't had a chance to play any Epifani gear but it sounds like I'm about to take a road trip to Cali. My trusty Hartke hydrives will be on the job tomorrow. Three services so they'll get put through their paces with the DB751.

Give Bag End 15s a whirl. They sounded killer with the DB 659 and 680s. With that head, they will keep your lows in check, add some nice midrange complexity, and crispness to the top end.

your back can handle. Or several. I'd get an HT112ER for rehearsals/small gigs, the new 212HD for larger gigs with hifi sound, and the NV412 for BIG gigs with old school sound.

Cheers,
Cameron

Wow it seems the Bergs have just as large if not a larger following than epifani. So two services into today I've learned the markbass 410 sounds a bit too "nasal" for my ears. The Hartke Hydrive sounds great (especially for the money) but at high volumes (sound guy was training a new guy so I wasn't going through the FOH for the first half) the Hartke loses some of the bottom clarity and the low register on my MTD 635 turns to mud. (it's tuned to low A on the "B" string.

I'm sure this wouldn't be the case with 2 4x10s. Love the hi fi clarity though. Gotta go try the Bergs/Epifani.

Bergantino

IMO, you should really look into the Bergantino cabs. I have yet to be dissappointed with any berg and my DB 750.

Big +1 to Bassflute
