Deathcore Tube Amp

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys, i'm interested in buying a new amp. I'm currently forming a deathcore band and was looking at some high-end gear. The guitarist have a myriad of choice in high-end tube amps like engl, diezel and bogner. But there doesn't seem to exist a tube amp like that for bass. Does someone know of a manufacturer making a compareble amp for bass or am i looking for something that doesn't exist?

Something with lots of power would be my guess....but it really depends on what sound you want.

Tons of amps are fine for deathcore. You dont need an all tube amp, however if thats your preference, i dont see why a good old Ampeg SVT, Orange AD200, or Peavey VB-2/3 wouldnt work.

Also can get some nice tube type tones from the Genz Benz shuttlemax series amps.

sunn amps are to old school, more stoner/sludge. I'm looking for a bass counterpart to popular boutique amps in the genre like engl and diezel, just wondering if they existed really.

If Madison amps are still in business, they'll probably fit your bill.

I'm also willing to bet that Diezels will move some serious air despite being guitar amps.

Matamp are a boutique valve amp, flexible tone and customisable tone. Gonna have trouble finidng that sort of workmanship elsewhere.

For bass i would have to say not quite. For deathcore, Djent, or modern tones, guitarists love their Engls, Diezels, DAR, etc. because of there tight low end.

For bass it is a bit different as the real need is good headroom. I dont know too many deathcore bands as i am more of death metal guy, but i dont seem to hear too much distorted bass.

My guess youd be fine with a nice powerful solid state amp, maybe hyrbid if you really desire some tube warmth or grit.

Wow - this is like a sophisticated "What's the best amp for metal" thread! And for some bizarre reason, I feel compelled to reply:

Sadowsky SA200 (if you can find one)
Trace Elliot V8 (if you can find one)
Aguilar DB359 (IYCFO)
Divided by 13 TBL200
Ampeg Heritage SVT
Morgan MP200
65 Amps
Hiwatt
Allesandro
Orange AD200
Badcat
Verellen Meat Smoke
Reeves C225
Matamp
Ashdown Drophead
Jaguar 200
Reinhardt
Weber

etc. I'm sure

Well, he is "looking for a bass counterpart to popular boutique amps", so I guess "boutique" is an important aspect of the amp he's looking for. Why, I don't know.

There are only two things amps produce with a cab, Volume and Tone. Given that, there are many, many amps on the market to achieve that. Looking for a boutique solution narrows that down.

Yeah, i'm currently running a hybrid rig. But i'm a bit obsessed with the rich tone of a tube power section. I know a powerful solid state amp would probably be better, but i'm just curious how a high headroom tube bass amp would sound with this music style. I'd really like to try out some of the engl tube power amps, with a demeter vtbp-201s for example. Thanks to everybody that came with suggestions. Going to try and find some sound clips of these things being played on some serious low tunings.

Now you say it that way, it seemed like a pretty retarded question xd.

Kind of heavily deppends on your EQ and your cab(s) for how much headroom you need. Middly tone and efficient cabs won't need a lot of power. But anything with an inherent mid scoop, like the Orange amps with the three band Fender style eq, and inefficient cabs and you'll disappear in the mid even cranked.

anything goes with metal man! Ive got an Eden Wt-800 amp through two eden 4x10's and it sounds killer for all genres. Ive also got an ampeg 8x10 stack with an Ampeg svt-7 head on top and that is great too. I say just have a variety!

The Engl tube power amps are only 100 watts per side. Thats fine for guitar, those 200 watts wont get you as far as a guitar. Not saying 200 tube watts arent alot, they are, but you might run out of clean headroom if that is a concern.

If you want a huge tube power section, check out the Laney nexus 400. 400 watts all tube. Laney Amplification | Products | nexus-tube

Yeah, i'm probably going to need to find myself just a really big tube power amp somewhere, and hook that up to my pre-amp.

Btw a bassist who uses a tube amp in this kind of music is Dan Briggs from Between The Buried And Me for example.
